Blog Post #1: Introductions

Hello and welcome to An Adventure and a Half!

If anyone other than me is reading this now, it means I didn’t chicken out of making my blog public! Putting yourself out there is terrifying, and no matter how many people tell you “Just go for it!” or “You got this!” when you’re face-to-face with that little Publish button, you have a brief moment of doubt and question if this is really a good idea or not. And if you know me personally and are really confused as to what is going on, I recommend you check out my ABOUT ME section. You can read more about the death of my old blog and the birth of the one over there. But for any newbies, thank you for taking the time to visit my tiny corner of the internet!

Briefly about me though: My name is Lisa, and I’m a 34-year-old Hmong-American. I grew up in Providence, RI, then went on to major in Communication Studies at Northeastern University. I discovered that I hated Comm Studies, and so after a year, dropped out of the program. I then turned to Pharmacy because I didn’t know what else to do with my life. Although being a pharmacist is not the sexiest career choice, it definitely isn’t boring! There’s a new challenge to overcome every day and no shortage of stuff to learn. Now here I am, trying my hand at blogging once more. If there is anything on this earth I could say I am remotely passionate about, it would be traveling. I could be daydreaming of new places to visit, planning my trips for the upcoming year, or just talking about past trips with friends. Travel and all things related consume a big chunk of my brain space.

Amidst a global pandemic where travel has been massively restricted and rules for quarantining feel like they’re changing every day, why did I decide to start a travel blog? Well, for one, the development of a vaccine is making me really hopeful that the world will slowly open up in 2021. For all of you who quarantined during the pandemic, I commend you for your contributions. As an essential worker, I still had to get up and go into work every day. But quarantining at home is no cake walk. We’ve all had a crap shoot of a year, and with a little light at the end of the tunnel, a lot of us are itching to get back on the road. I know I’m not the only one who’s making plans to take a much needed vacation at the end of 2021.

I really want this blog to not only be a recollection of my past adventures, but more so a place where I can help you plan your own trips. We often look to our friends with questions like, “What did you like the most when you went to A?” or “Was that thing at B really worth the hype?” I wanna be that friend to you! Plus, when I think about blogs that I really enjoy and find most useful, it’s always the ones that provide advice and insight on my destination (Ex: how to get from A to B; make sure you pack X, Y, Z; etc.).

One more time for the people in the back - THANK YOU so much for taking the time to come here. You can be anywhere on the internet right now, but you chose to be here with me. In the upcoming week I’ll be posting about one of the most fun experiences I have EVER had - sailing and partying with The Yacht Week. It will be a two-part series. The first post will be about prepping and planning for the Yacht Week. The second post will be a re-cap of when I went to The Yacht Week in Greece.
